Tonight I Kick Fear In The Face
This is the day!
This is the day I don’t let fear win.
Over the past year, I’ve done a lot of things that I was afraid of: saying out loud I want to make a feature length film, saying out loud I’m an LGBT ally, making my film about LGBT tensions, writing that screenplay, hosting a table reading of that screenplay for an audience of 20.
Tonight I can add “Launch a kickstarter campaign for this passion project.”
It’s certainly a leap of faith. It could fall short of its goal. With Kickstarter if I get $74,000 pledged of my $75,000 goal, I get nothing.
That’s a HUGE goal – especially for a no-name like myself.
But when I look at it, the only thing I have to lose is my pride (which is probably a good thing to lose).
If, at the end of the day, (nice) I don’t hit my goal, I still have a loving and supportive family to come home to. I still have a bed to sleep in. I still have amazing friends who will encourage me.
And when I compare my fear to the fear many LGBT teens have about coming out to their parents or friends, I realize I literally have nothing to lose. These kids could lose everything: their home, their school, their parents.
So every time I get scared today (and for the next 30 days), I’ll remind myself that I really have nothing to lose. That the reason I’m doing this is to bring love, acceptance, and honor to these teens. And to give doubters space to ask their questions.
Let’s do this!
If you’re in central Florida, I’d love to invite you to our Launch Party, 8pm at Tony’s Studio B in Lakeland! You can RSVP here.
